چکیده

Renal cell carcinoma (RCC) represents the sixth most frequently diagnosed cancer in men and is asymptomatic, being detected mostly incidentally. The apparition of symptoms correlates with advanced disease, aggressive histology, poor outcomes. development Surface-Enhanced Raman Scattering (SERS) technique opened way for investigating detecting small molecules, especially biological liquids such as serum or blood plasma, urine, saliva, tears, was proposed a simple diagnosis various diseases, including cancer. In this study, we investigated use label-free SERS combined two multivariate analysis tests: Principal Component Analysis Linear Discriminate (PCA-LDA) Supported Vector Machine (SVM) discrimination 50 RCC patients from 45 apparently healthy donors. case LDA-PCA, obtained accuracy 100% using 12 principal components quadratic function. between stages 88%. SVM approach, training 100%, validation 92% controls, an 81% stages. We also performed standard statistical tests aimed at improving assignment vibration bands, which, according to our data, are mainly due purinic metabolites (uric acid hypoxanthine). Moreover, results these assignments Student’s t-test suggest that main differences spectra increase uric concentration (a conclusion agreement recent literature), while hypoxanthine not statistically different groups. Our demonstrate chemometrics holds great promise non-invasive early detection RCC. However, more studies needed validate when other urological diseases.

[Prognostic factors of renal cell carcinoma: a multivariate analysis].

In a series of 104 patients with renal cell carcinoma, a variety of clinical and histological factors were analyzed to establish their value as prognostic factors. In a univariate analysis (log-rank test), the presence or absence of symptoms, tumor size, pT, N, M, pV categories, TNM stage, Robson stage, nuclear grade and cell type were significantly associated with cause-specific survival, whil...

Label-free in situ Raman and SERS imaging of biofilms

Biofilms are communities of microorganisms embedded in a matrix of extracellular polymeric substances (EPS), which represent the predominant mode of microbial life. EPS (biopolymers such as polysaccharides, proteins, nucleic acids, lipids, and humic-like substances) play a major role in the formation and maintenance of the biofilm structure and in the protection of the embedded microorganisms a...

Analysis of Serum Cytokine Levels in Larynx Squamous Cell Carcinoma and Dysplasia Patients

Background: Although the imbalance of cytokines in Head and Neck Squamous Cell Carcinoma (HNSCC) is well known, there is scarce data regarding its occurrence during dysplasia, before the malignant transformation. Objective: To determine whether laryngeal dysplasia patients show a different cytokine profile than patients with cancer and healthy controls. Methods: Seventeen newly diagnosed, untre...

Dyspnea as the First Manifestation of Silent Renal Cell Carcinoma

Renal cell carcinoma (RCC) accounts for only 3% of adult malignancies, and the lung is the most common site of metastasis of this tumor, which may be accompanied by pleural metastasis. However, solitary pleural involvement is very rare and its presentation with dyspnea as the first manifestation of RCC is extremely rare.We describe a 39-year-old male with episodes of dyspnea dating back 6...
